Began his journey at age 15 in Tokyo’s high-end Italian cuisine, later expanding his expertise across premier Japanese dining in New York, Pasadena, and Orange County. He blends strict Japanese tradition with modern, creative innovation.

Akira Sumikawa

Moved to the U.S. in his teens and has dedicated decades to American guest care and restaurant management. He brings an unmatched warmth and elite expertise to the counter, ensuring a flawless dining experience.

Our Story & Mission

Sushi Wabi Sabi began three years ago as an exclusive private catering service in Orange County, evolving through curated brewery pop-ups and a successful storefront in Downtown Santa Ana.

With the opening of our brick-and-mortar Sushi Izakaya & Sake Bar in Costa Mesa, our vision has come full circle—marking the exact moment Akira officially joined the team.

Beyond serving exceptional food, our core mission is to share, celebrate, and evolve the rich heritage of Japanese culture through authentic dining. We invite you to experience the true essence of Omotenashi with our seasonal fish flown from Japan and over 45+ hand-selected craft sakes.
